Hull's World Cup Bid!

Add News

England is bidding to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup - and Hull is bidding to be a host city!

The World Cup finals, along with the Olympics, is the biggest sporting event on the planet and would bring substantial economic benefits, as well as the thrill of being able to watch the world's best players. The German economy had a $400m boost from the 2006 tournament, with over 2 million tourists visiting the country for the football.

With Hull City now playing in the Premiership, the whole country knows what a fine stadium we have at the KC. This is not lost on the FA either, as many recent Under-21 matches have been played there.

Nick Barmby is right behind the bid. He said "I think it's fantastic that we're in for the 2018 World Cup bid in this country. It would have so many effects on the players and the young kids growing up in this country, particularly in Hull, to see World Cup football. The benefits for the businesses and the economy for the city of Hull and to see all these great players - international players - coming into the city would be amazing. I'm fully behind the 2018 bid for England to host the world cup and it'd be tremendous for Hull to be a host city."
